Questions parents ask
About Nara
What is Nara?
Nara is a pocket guide to what to say and do with your child, from pregnancy to age four. Its conversation prompts give you ideas for play and talk that build first words, early reading, numbers and logic. Others help with hard moments like meltdowns, and with doing things on their own. Your child learns from that time with you.
What ages is Nara for?
Pregnancy to age four, in nine stages. The guidance changes as your child moves from one stage to the next.
What’s in a conversation prompt?
Each one is built around a real moment, like bath time or a meltdown. It gives you one simple thing to try, the words to say, a few short steps, and an example of how the back-and-forth with your child might go. It also explains why it helps your child, and sometimes what to avoid. You can save prompts for later and mark the ones you’ve tried.
How is it different from a parenting blog or a milestone tracker?
Blogs explain development in general, and trackers record what your child can do. Nara focuses on the moment you’re in: what to do and say right now, for your child’s stage. Milestones are there too, so you can see which skills usually come next.
My child isn’t talking yet. Is Nara still useful?
Yes. Babies communicate long before words, through looks, cries, coos, babble, reaching and pointing, and they often understand more than they can say. Many conversation prompts are about noticing those signals and answering them, which is how early conversations begin.
How the guidance works
Where does the guidance come from?
Every conversation prompt is based on published guidance from the CDC, ASHA, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the NHS, Zero to Three and Harvard’s Center on the Developing Child, plus peer-reviewed research, and each one is traced back to its source. The words to try are written to follow what each source recommends.
How does Nara know my child’s stage?
You add your child when you create an account, and Nara shows you the guidance for their current stage. When they move into the next stage, the guidance moves with them.
How much time does it take?
Conversation prompts are short, and most fit into something you’re already doing, like getting changed, a meal or a walk outside. There’s nothing extra to schedule.
Early access and privacy
When does Nara launch?
We’re building the iPhone app now, and Android will follow. Waitlist members hear first when early access opens.
How much will it cost?
Nara will have a free version and a paid plan with more conversation prompts for your child’s stage. Pricing will be announced before launch, and waitlist members get 50% off their first month.
What do I get for joining the waitlist?
A free guide to talking with your child at each stage, 50% off your first month of the paid plan, and early access to try Nara before launch and tell us what would help.
What information do you collect?
The waitlist only asks for your email address, and nothing about your child. We use it to send your guide and early-access news, and we never sell it. If you write to us through the contact form, we also keep your name and message so we can reply. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
